Kaleb is expecting something trivial - a cerebus, a demon - something, anything that would be typically frightening to the average human. What does emerge from the shadows, however, makes him do a double take as he stares down at the younger teenager in front of him and then back up at his doppelganger. No, there is definitely two, now, and if not for the fact that Kaleb is sure he knows this is a boggart, he would wonder if this is Laurent's evil twin who has just emerged from the shadows to give them the creeps.
And the creeps he does give. The image that settles before his eyes makes him lean away from the situation slightly, and for this reason he is glad that Lark is taking the front of their little pack because he doesn't want the sudden discomfort to show on his face. That smile is unsettling even for Kaleb, and the situation only seems to be more traumatizing as the figure begins to melt and-
Laurent's screaming raises the hairs on the back of Kaleb's neck. The adrenaline rush seems to do its work, however, for next he knows the boggart retreats and Lark is beelining out of the room in a way that makes a laugh catch in Kaleb's nose.
Only as he follows after the Chickindor does he really go over what he's just seen. From an outer perspective he can imagine how the situation would be frightening, but the origins of the apparition confuse him. For this reason, he gives his adventure buddy a curious look as he exits the room and safely shuts the door behind them. He makes a note to check for it in the daytime, even though he's sure he's never seen it before.
He glances at Laurent more fully after observing the door. Lark seems overly bothered, and within reason, Kaleb can't blame him. Weighing the decision to poke fun at him or not, Kaleb seems to let the fear factor slide as he rolls his eyes at the jokes he's making about himself in stead. Somehow, the weight of Laurent's worry seems to push through despite his attempts at comedy, and Kaleb's set expression reflects some kind of deeper thoughts before he tips his chin up again as per usual and replies.
"I suppose you do. Though you stuttered. You can't have that in a duel, you know," he says offhandedly. He realizes that, for the umpteenth time, they are standing irregularly close to eachother. Kaleb watches Lark rub at the back of his neck uncomfortably a moment before he himself finally steps away.
"I'll meet you in the kitchens then, I suppose. Tomorrow evening." He blinks, almost unable to believe he's agreeing to it, but their conditions were set. He pauses in his strut to glance hard back at the blond one more time, as though to absorb that he is really actually there, and this is all actually, really happening. He shifts his shoulders before he pockets his wand into his robes and gives the other teenager an exasperated sigh.
"Do you need me to walk you back to your bloody dorm as well or are you going to make it there without dying?"
