Appearance
Name: Terrance Rene Kholling
Age and Year: Thirty-two; Professor
Birthday: May 1st
Gender: Male
Occupation: Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor
Residence: Hogwarts [school year]; some part of South France
Pet: Mettle, a six year old rosy boa.
Appearance: True to his heritage, Terrance is an altogether pale, gaunt man. Perpetual shadows linger under his red-rimmed eyes, their irises being somewhere in the realm of blue and gray. With long, straight brows, dark lashes, a finely fluted nose and full mouth, Terrance is an attractive man even from afar. His pallid complexion and weary expression are two hallmarks to take note of: he is, in fact, half vampire. Please take note that his teeth are all flat and white like a normal human being's and only when his bloodthirsty nature gets the better of him do a pair of fangs protrude past his rosy lips. At a neat five foot eleven, he has an impressive bearing, both refined and reserved. Long legged, his torso is thin and bony. All in all, Terrance cannot maintain any hard muscularity; it's true that he's malnourished and his body suffers accordingly. His hair is kept longer on top; his natural shade is a black like that of a raven's feathers, prone to picking up bluish tints rather than brown. As a professor, he keeps up his appearance as best he can. Since he sleeps little Terry has plenty of time to keep up with the trends. Lately he's even dared to pierce his upper left earlobe and keeps a small ruby stud there at all times. While he is scrupulous with his finances, he does like to wear several rings at a time - but mostly they're silver plated. Under his teaching robes, he prefers form-fitting attire such as button down shirts, dress pants and vests, along with his trademark scarves. It's rare for him to "dumb down" his attire with jeans or trainers, but his sleeping outfits are usually tank tops with flannel bottoms.
Personality: Solemn. Responsible. Blunt. Terry might come off as a little rough around the edges to begin with, especially if you're a first year with absolutely no discipline. While he considers himself a pretty normal fellow, he fails to see himself through the public eye. He is always somewhat distant, practically stoic compared to the other professors, but he's also the type of guy who can set on fire various rumors for just looking at someone. He keeps to himself, but seems to mesh well with any given group. On the other hand, not too many bother to look past his tired gaze and gruff, nonplussed attitude. In class, he's concisely spoken and will not budge to accommodate "lazy scholars" whom forgot to finish their assignments. If someone does not understand something, he will repeat himself for all to hear, but it's fairly likely that individual will be asked to 'demonstrate on the spot'. He does not like being made a fool of or taken lightly by his students.
Terry's strict with himself; his time-management skills are completely self taught and he's extraordinarily organized. For good reason too: a vampire cannot let themselves be irresponsible among so many... temptations. Now, his personal space might resemble something belonging to a teenage boy, but that's as far as the untidiness goes. Reliable could be his middle name, but so could emotionally stunted. Expressing his feelings is no easy matter. Instead, he usually just goes with the flow and doesn't question his instincts. If someone messes with his stuff, he'll get irritated, but rarely blows his top without a spectacularly good reason. Terry seems like he might be something of a push-over, but he's also argumentative at times.
History: Terrance Rene Kholling is the only son of a French heiress and her dark husband. They were married despite numerous complaints from both their families; Bertrand Kholling's coven did not like intermarriage between species and, frankly, Elaine's friends feared for her life. Their fears were for not- Bertrand loved his mother. Ever since he was a child, Terrance was known as "the beautiful one" among all his classmates, friends and teachers. [Let it be noted that he did not go to Hogwarts: he went to Beauxbatons.] Seeing as he was naturally eye-catching, his socialite mother made sure to flaunt him to all her friends - half of which happened to be famous people in the wizarding world. Turns out 'ol mother was an clothing designer for wealthy witches and celebrities back in the day.
At Beauxbatons's, Terry never told anyone about his father. Everyone assumed that Terry simply didn't get along with Bertrand and left it alone to respect his feelings. Even so, he was popular for two reasons, commonplace amongst the elite Beauxbatons students. Looks. Brains. No one cared that he was weak-bodied or suffered from "anemia." As for Terrance, he truly enjoyed starting study groups and earning high scores on his essays. As part vampire, however, he had a few biological issues to work through. His magic? Sporadic, at best. The frustration grew over the years as his classmates advanced and he was left behind, trailing pathetically. He had to find an answer, a way to boost his practical skills. It was a professor he had never met before that directed him on the right path.
Ten years of work. In theory, Terrance could be one of the most magically successful part-vampire of the present day. Where he has trouble managing simple charms and transfigurations, he is particularly skilled at offensive and defensive work - dueling that one professor for five years turned him into a first rate duelist. While looking for work, Terrance found himself up against a wall. Nearly no one wants to work with a "mixed breed" such as himself. Perhaps if he had been part-Giant, the issue wouldn't have surmounted as badly as it did. In the end, Terry found refuge in England: Hogwarts had been looking for a DATDA's instructor.
Inventory: Trunk of belongings. Wand. Sterilized "flask" to hold his daily regimen of various animal bloods.
