Name: Kyrie Chant (Ky-ree Chant)
Age and Year: 45
Birthday: October 22nd, 1950
Gender: Female
House and/or Occupation: Headmistress of Hogwarts and professor of Astronomy.
Residence: Hogwarts, year-round.
Pets: A dilapidated old owl named Ludwig. Ludwig should have died of old age a long time ago, but he seems to be fueled by pure hatred; not even Kyrie can do anything but give him a quick pat on the head without risking a vicious bite.
Appearance: Kyrie is tall for a woman, about 5'10” and of average weight. She has strawberry blond hair- with a few hints of gray beginning to show at the temples- and wears it back in a simple bun. She has a narrow, pointed nose and round, gray-green eyes. Recently, faint wrinkles have started to appear at the corners of her eyes and around her mouth.
On the job, Kyrie prefers to wear simple, well-kept black robes. Beneath her robes, she likes modest skirts or dresses, silk blouses and other quiet but professional attire. Nothing fancy but certainly not slovenly. She has an affinity for odd jewelry, and her favorite piece is a lacquered wooden ring with a badger head on it. Having learned to embrace her height at a young age, Kyrie wears kitten heels when she's not working. [/b]
Personality: Kyrie is an intelligent woman who loves nothing more than learning, almost regardless of the subject. Her favorites are all branches of science and anthropology, especially magical anthropology. She is an observer, reveling in the collection of information, and finds human nature endlessly fascinating. Despite her textbook knowledge of psychology, Kyrie is removed and somewhat awkward; in face to face interactions, people seem to confuse her and she often gets a different reaction than what she expects. Logical, honest, and even-tempered as she is, Kyrie seems to assume everyone else operates the same way she does. She is not one to make snap decisions, which can sometimes be detrimental when quick action is required.
Her close friends know her to have a sarcastic and quick sense of humor, but most everyone else sees her as stiff, robotic, and perhaps off-putting. She loves her job and takes it very seriously, but has trouble dealing with young people sometimes, tending to expect too much of them.
Although her job has forced her to be more shrewd and suspicious, the former Hufflepuff has a naturally trusting nature. She assumes everyone wants the best for Hogwarts, like she does, and it seems almost out of her realm of comprehension that someone would want to harm such an esteemed place or learning, or any of the innocent people inside.
Perhaps there is a small part of her that regrets never marrying or having a family, but Kyrie takes great pride in her academic and professional accomplishments and values her freedom and solitude.
History: Kyrie was born in Britain to wizarding parents. She is the youngest of two children but was never very close with her older brother. She had a comfortable childhood and a normal upbringing in a sprawling countryside estate, where she developed a wild imagination and a love for the natural world.
At 11, she was enrolled in Hogwarts and sorted into Hufflepuff. Honest and serious, Kyrie fit in well but preferred her studies to other people. Soon, she was at the top of most of her classes, particularly Care of Magical Creatures. Academic success became the most important part of her life; she was appointed prefect in her fifth year and in her seventh, she made Head Girl.
After graduating, Kyrie spent several years traveling Europe, compiling notes for a book on rare magical creatures. She intended to return to Hogwarts as a Care of Magical Creatures professor, but on her travels she developed an affinity for studying the stars. At 23, she returned and spent some time as an Astronomy professor's assistant before getting the position herself.
At the end of last year, Dumbledore left Hogwarts to more actively try to convince people of the Dark Lord's return, and Kyrie was given the position because of her long employment. So far, she has yet to make a name for herself as particularly amazing or awful, but she is determined to live up to her predecessor.
