[ Note: Homework is not mandatory to any rper and can be completed by anyone, new or old to the class/forum. Simply post it in the drop box at any time with the Class Number at the top so I know which ones your character has decided to do in elaboration! ]
Draven taps his desk to bring attention to the front of the room once the student body has settled in. There's a pause before he straightens and looks among his gathering of brains, all with potential to be filled with information.
"In your base Beginner years of Transfigurations, there is much focus on conversion of things. Animals to other animals, objects to other objects. In the first year of Intermediate studies, however, we are stepping somewhat around that boundary and taking the transfiguring to another level of mastery."
He steps from behind his desk to better himself at the front of the class, and promptly points his wand at the case of his snake, who is presently a guest in the class room. The lid of her enclosure pops off and she slithers out and across the floor. Draven presents his hand to her and she slides up his arm with ease, coiling like a scarf over his shoulders.
"We are going to be first, changing objects into organic, living things. If you could all withdraw a quill and set it in front of you - enough with the note-taking, Miss Granger, this is hands on study I'm sure you will be entirely capable to do it without trouble - and leave it there while I demonstrate a first incantation."
Clearing his throat as the students get to their task, Draven gives his snake a coy look before picking up a quill off of his desk and presenting it to the class in his hand.
"Some of you may be familiar with the Avifors incantation and for that reason, we will be using that for practise. This incantation, if done correctly, is meant to turn alternate things into a bird, or multiple birds, depending on how poorly or well it is performed. The difference is that instead of converting biological things into other biological things, you will be turning still, dead matter into a living object. Avifors."
The feather bursts into a small flock of finches, and they cheep animatedly as they flutter around the room. Another crack of his wand and they disappear back into a feather.
"You must put focus into the object you are intending to change. Start with one bird, one you are familiar with - envision all of its qualities, down to its insides if you can. With this focus and image in your head you will be able to develop the full bird over time. If you need a sample bird, flip to page thirty-four in your text and there is an intricate diagram of a Sparrow from the inside out for you to practise with. Now, begin. I'll be coming around to observe your progress. Any questions?"
